Experimental entanglement generation using multiport beam splitters

Abstract Multipartite entanglement plays a central role in optical quantum technologies. One way to entangle two photons is prepare them orthogonal internal states, for example, polarisations, and then send through balanced beam splitter. Post-selecting on the cases where there one photon each output port results maximally entangled state. This idea can be extended schemes post-selected generation of larger states. Typically, switching between different types states requires arrangements splitters so new experimental setup. Here, we demonstrate simple versatile scheme generate genuine tripartite with only We three three-port splitter vary their before post-selecting certain distributions. W, G GHZ obtain fidelities up ( 87.3 ± 1.1 stretchy="false">) % regard respective ideal confirming successful entanglement.

In a gedankenexperiment N particles in a generalised GHZ-type beam entangled state (each particle can be in one of M beams) are fed into N symmetric 2M-port beam splitters (spatially separated). We report on conductance measurements in carbon nanotube based double quantum dots connected to two normal electrodes and a central superconducting finger. By operating our devices as beam splitters, we provide evidence for crossed Andreev reflections tunable in situ. This opens an avenue to more sophisticated quantum opticslike experiments with spin entangled electrons.
